STMicroelectronics launches flexible synchronous rectification controller

The detection input of SRK1004 can withstand voltages up to 190V and can be connected to high and low side power switch tubes. There are four products for users to choose from. Only device selection allows users to optimize application designs. By selecting a gate drive voltage of 5.5V or 9V, the ideal logic level MOSFET, standard MOSFET or GaN transistor can be selected in the design to avoid complex calculation process. Suitable for non-complementary active-clamp, resonant and quasi-resonant (QR) flyback topologies, the SRK1004 introduces a new generation of turn-off algorithms that simplify switching operations and save power.

This controller enables power converters to be reduced in size while increasing their rated output power. A switching frequency of 500kHz allows the use of small electromagnetic components and, when using GaN transistors, maximizes the benefits of wide bandgap technology. This controller uses STMicroelectronics' silicon-on-insulator (SOI) manufacturing process to ensure excellent robustness while also being available in a 2mm x 2mm DFN-6L micro package.

The power supply voltage of SRK1004 is 4V to 36V, and various standard industrial bus power supplies can be used. The wide-voltage input also allows for flexible adjustment of the step-down ratio for optimal energy efficiency. In addition, the controller has built-in fast short-circuit detection to help develop robust and reliable equipment.

Of the four new products, the SRK1004A and SRK1004B have a gate drive voltage of 5.5V and can be used with logic level MOSFETs or GaN transistors. The SRK1004C and SRK1004D with a gate drive voltage of 9V are suitable for MOSFETs using standard gate drive signals.

The entire series of SRK1004x synchronous rectification controller products are now in mass production. Four product evaluation boards, EVLSRK1004A, EVLSRK1004B, EVLSRK1004C and EVLSRK1004D, are now available. These boards can help developers speed up the product evaluation process and start designing early.
